12 For our (A)wrongful acts have multiplied before You,
And our (B)sins have testified against us;
For our wrongful acts are with us,
And [a]we know our wrongdoings:
13 [b]Offending and (C)denying the Lord,
And turning away from our God,
Speaking (D)oppression and revolt,
Conceiving and (E)uttering lying words from the heart.
14 (F)Justice is turned back,
And (G)righteousness stands far away;
For truth has stumbled in the street,
And uprightness cannot enter.
15 Truth is lacking,
And one who turns aside from evil (H)makes himself a prey.
Now the Lord saw,
And it was [c]displeasing in His sight (I)that there was no justice.
16 And He saw that there was (J)no one,
And was amazed that there was not one to intercede;
Then His (K)own arm brought salvation to Him,
And His righteousness upheld Him.
17 He put on (L)righteousness like a breastplate,
And a (M)helmet of salvation on His head;
And He put on (N)garments of vengeance for clothing
And wrapped Himself with (O)zeal as a cloak.
18 (P)According to their deeds, [d]so will He repay:
Wrath to His adversaries, [e]retribution to His enemies;
To the coastlands He will [f]deal [g]retribution.
19 So they will fear the name of the Lord from the (Q)west
And His glory from the (R)rising of the sun,
For He will (S)come like a [h]rushing stream
Which the wind of the Lord drives.
20 “A (T)Redeemer will come to Zion,
And to those in Jacob who (U)turn from wrongdoing,” declares the Lord.

Hear this, you who [a](A)trample the needy, to put an end to the humble of the land, saying,

“When will the (B)new moon [b]be over,
So that we may sell grain;
And the (C)Sabbath, so that we may open the wheat market,
To make the [c]ephah smaller and the [d]shekel bigger,
And to (D)cheat with dishonest scales,
So as to (E)buy the helpless for [e]money,
And the needy for a pair of sandals,
And that we may sell the refuse of the wheat?”

The Lord has (F)sworn by the (G)pride of Jacob,
“Indeed, I will (H)never forget any of their deeds.
Because of this will the land not (I)quake,
And everyone who lives in it (J)mourn?
Indeed, all of it will (K)rise up like the Nile,
And it will be tossed about
And subside like the Nile of Egypt.
And it will come about on that day,” declares the Lord God,
“That I will make the (L)sun go down at noon,
And (M)make the earth dark in [f]broad daylight.
10 Then I will (N)turn your festivals into mourning,
And all your songs into songs of mourning;
And I will put (O)sackcloth around everyone’s waist,
And [g]baldness on every head.
And I will make it (P)like a time of mourning for an only son,
And the end of it will be like a bitter day.

11 “Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord God,
“When I will send a famine on the land,
Not a famine of bread or a thirst for water,
But rather (Q)for hearing the words of the Lord.
12 People will stagger from sea to sea
And from the north even to the east;
They will roam about to (R)seek the word of the Lord,
But they will not find it.
13 On that day the beautiful (S)virgins
And the young men will (T)faint from thirst.
14 As for those who swear by the [h](U)guilt of Samaria,
And say, ‘As your god lives, (V)Dan,’
And, ‘As the way of (W)Beersheba lives,’
They will fall and (X)not rise again.”

15 So then, [a]be careful how you (A)walk, not (B)as unwise people but as wise, 16 [b](C)making the most of your time, because (D)the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but (E)understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And (F)do not get drunk with wine, [c]in which there is (G)debauchery, but be (H)filled with the Spirit, 19 (I)speaking to [d]one another in (J)psalms and (K)hymns and spiritual (L)songs, (M)singing and making melody with your hearts to the Lord; 20 (N)always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our (O)God and Father; 21 [e](P)and subject yourselves to one another in the [f](Q)fear of Christ.

Marriage like Christ and the Church

22 (R)Wives, (S)subject yourselves to your own husbands, (T)as to the Lord. 23 For (U)the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the (V)head of the church, He Himself (W)being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

25 (X)Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and (Y)gave Himself up for her, 26 (Z)so that He might sanctify her, having (AA)cleansed her by the (AB)washing of water with (AC)the word, 27 that He might (AD)present to Himself the church [g]in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be (AE)holy and blameless. 28 So husbands also ought to (AF)love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are (AG)parts of His (AH)body. 31 (AI)For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless, as for you individually, each husband is to (AJ)love his own wife the same as himself, and the wife must see to it that she (AK)respects her husband.

Children and Parents

(AL)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (AM)Honor your father and mother (which is the first commandment with a promise), so that it may turn out well for you, and that you may live long on the earth.

(AN)Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but (AO)bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Slaves and Masters

(AP)Slaves, be obedient to those who are your [h]masters according to the flesh, with (AQ)fear and trembling, in the sincerity of your heart, (AR)as to Christ; (AS)not [i]by way of [j]eye-service, as (AT)people-pleasers, but as (AU)slaves of Christ, (AV)doing the will of God from the [k]heart. With goodwill [l]render service, (AW)as to the Lord, and not to people, (AX)knowing that (AY)whatever good thing each one does, he will receive this back from the Lord, (AZ)whether slave or free.

And masters, do the same things to them, and (BA)give up threatening, knowing that (BB)both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is (BC)no partiality with Him.

14 But when it was now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple area, and began to (A)teach. 15 (B)The Jews then were astonished, saying, “How has this man (C)become learned, not having been educated?” 16 So Jesus answered them and said, (D)My teaching is not My own, but His who sent Me. 17 (E)If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is of God, or I am speaking from Myself. 18 The one who speaks from himself (F)seeks his own glory; but He who is seeking the glory of the One who sent Him, He is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

19 (G)Did Moses not give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why are you (H)seeking to kill Me?” 20 The crowd answered, “(I)You have a demon! Who is seeking to kill You?” 21 Jesus answered them, “I did (J)one [a]deed, and you all are astonished. 22 For this reason (K)Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from (L)the fathers), and even on a Sabbath you circumcise a man. 23 (M)If a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry at Me because I made an entire man well on a Sabbath? 24 Do not (N)judge by the outward appearance, but judge [b]with righteous judgment.”

25 So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this man not the one whom they are seeking to kill? 26 And yet look, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. (O)The rulers do not really know that this is the [c]Christ, do they? 27 However, (P)we know where this man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from.” 28 Then Jesus cried out in the temple, (Q)teaching and saying, (R)You both know Me and you know where I am from; and (S)I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know. 29 (T)I do know Him, because (U)I am from Him, and (V)He sent Me.” 30 So they (W)were seeking to arrest Him; and yet no one laid a hand on Him, because His (X)hour had not yet come. 31 But (Y)many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, “(Z)When the [d]Christ comes, He will not perform more [e](AA)signs than those which this man has done, will He?”

32 The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent (AB)officers to (AC)arrest Him. 33 Therefore Jesus said, (AD)For a little while longer I am going to be with you, and then (AE)I am going to Him who sent Me. 34 (AF)You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.” 35 (AG)The Jews then said to one another, “(AH)Where does this man intend to go that we will not find Him? He does not intend to go to (AI)the Dispersion among (AJ)the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, does He? 36 What is this statement that He said, (AK)You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”
